Pictorial Competition Results

On Friday 13th March, guest judge Pamella Vose judged the Hoylake Photographic Society "Pictorial" competition. Although some club members struggled with the concept of what represented a pictorial image, Pam did her best and came up with her award winners in the category and in doing so she was constructive in her critique.

As usual our monthly competition is split into "Print" and "Digital Projected Images" sections with the "Print" section competed for by "Novice / Intermediate" members and "Advanced" members separately. The "Digital Projected Images" section is competed for by all members together regardless of their skill and experience.

Print Section

On this occasions the "Novice / Intermediate" mono print section received no entries, and only two prints were entered into the "Novice / Intermediate" colour print section with Michael Severn gaining 1st & Cup and Neil Carver coming 2nd. In the "Advanced" mono print section Noel George did well by taking 1st & Cup and 3rd place with Robert Devenish splitting his two prints in 2nd place. Well done Noel.

In the "Advanced" colour print section, Brian Magor did well getting 1st & Shield with Barry Quatermass gaining 2nd and Robert Devenish 3rd.

Digital Projected Images

This section is competed for by all members regardless of their skill and experience and Paul Anderson did well in coming 1st & Shield with "Contemplation" Paul is on an extended tour of the Far East and sends his images in via e-mail and his images are a guided tour of his travels. John Sixsmith, specialising in nature photography put his own pictorial stamp on a nature shot and gained 2nd place with "Curlew" while Barry Quatermass finally succeeded in getting his dogs in the awards with "Waiting and Looking" in 3rd place.
1st & Shield - "Contemplation" by Paul Anderson
2nd - "Curlew" by John Sixsmith
3rd - "Waiting and Looking" by Barry Quatermass
Well done to all of the award winners and commiserations to those who struggled to catch the judges eye including myself. The full list of award winners is below.
This was the last of our monthly club competitions so as the season draws to a close our final competition is the "Annual Competition" with the hand-in of entries on Friday 20th March. This competition is a re-run of the monthly competitions with a new set of judges and the monthly results are often turned on their heads.

Friday 20th March is also a club night with "Who Would Be A Judge" and Barry Quatermass needs some of your images for the night.

The club meets every Friday until 18th April at Newton Village Hall, Grange Cross Lane, West Kirby with the doors opening at 7.30 pm for a 7.45 pm start and a 10 pm finish. You don't have to be a member to attend as visitors are welcome paying only £2 on the door.
