Lancashire and Cheshire Photographic Union Folio

This Friday 2nd October Hoylake Photographic Society will be looking at the images submitted to and accepted for the Lancashire and Cheshire Photographic Union (LCPU) Folio. The folio showcases the best photography produced by photographers in the Lancashire and Cheshire counties (of which Hoylake as a club are affiliated) during the past year. There's certainly going to be some inspiring photography on view on the night.

Last Friday, Hoylake Photographic Society saw one of the most enthralling evenings that the club has had for a very long time. Gary Waldson (known by many as "Wayland") showed his "The Waylandscape" presentation - mainly water-themed dramatic landscape-based photography. A multi "Landscape Photographer of the Year" award winner, Gary's presentation style is laid back, full of humour and he gently provided a lot of practical knowledge whilst demonstrating his artistic and photographic skills through his stunning, rich and dramatic series of landscape photographs. Gary has a number of other themed presentations and I trust Hoylake will see him back again next season.. See some of his superb imagery at "The Waylandscape"

The clubs' program of photographic events and presentations continues through to May 2016 and you don't have to miss out. If you're interested in photography as either a novice, intermediate or advanced photographer, you can attend our evenings either as a member for £30 or a non member paying £2 on the door.

We meet at Newton Village Hall, Grange Cross Lane, West Kirby every Friday with the doors opening at 7.30 pm for a 7.45 pm start and a 10 pm finish. Give us a try.

A New Season Starts

Hoylake Photographic Society kicked off their 2015/16 season on 11th September with a "Meet and Greet" session aimed at attracting new members to the club. The club has members with a wide range of experience from advanced to novice and prospective new members were invited to bring along their cameras for some free advice on the night from the more experienced members. Demonstrations were set up in shooting still life, photographing water droplets using a camera and flashgun, post processing techniques, aircraft photography and photo books were on display of some of our members work. There was also an exhibition of prints by club members and the award winners of the Wirral Festival of Firsts 2015 photographic competition.

Les Pickstock standing in for club President Barry Quatermass on the night welcomed the new visitors to the club and the evening was an informal gathering of like minded people interested in all things photographic.

Club member Ian Chantler was on hand to discuss his passion for photographing aircraft both in the air and on the ground and Anthony Clarke spent a long time admiring Ian's work on his laptop.

Visitors to the club took in the wide range of prints that were on display which were taken by our club members plus the award winning photographs from the Wirral Festival of First 2015 photography competition which Hoylake Photographic Society judged this year.

There were a range of photo books on display belonging to our club members and they made impressive reading.

Les Pickstock was on hand to offer his advice on post processing to anyone who needed help. His advice went down well with our visitors and some club members. There's always something new to learn.

Experienced club member Rob Devenish spent a long time giving two guests advice on camera settings and how to get the best out of the camera.

The Meet and Greet proved to be a great success with several application forms for club membership being taken home by our visitors on the night. This bodes well for the coming season.
