Accepted Images From The Bebington Salon

This Friday 23rd March the club welcomes Bob Dennis with his digital presentation of the accepted images from the Bebington Salon. The salon is a national competition and receives thousands of excellent images from across the UK. You will see a very high standard of photography during the presentation on the night.

For club members Friday is also the hand-in for the Annual Competition. The entry form is on our website.

A reminder that the Hoylake International Exhibition 2018 is open to entries and it's free for club members. Check out the Hoylake Photographic Society website.

Impressions Competition Results

Hoylake Photographic Society holds several monthly photo competitions during its Winter season and it was decided to throw a curve ball at members in March with the theme of "Impressions". The competition was judged on 9th March by Nick Hilton EFIAP DPAGB BPE5* so the results were very much down to the entrants personal interpretation of the theme matching the judges interpretation. Not an easy task.

As usual the competition took the form of print and digital projected image sections with the prints split into colour and mono sub sections. All members competed on an equal basis regardless of skill and experience. I wasn't able to attend the judging on the night but it's clear from the awards that several members were able to match their interpretation of the theme to that of the judge as the same names keep occur in the awards.

In the colour print sub section Barry Quatermass did extremely well taking 1st and 2nd places and he'll be sore at having missed his successful night. Sue Freeman was also successful taking 3rd place. In the mono print sub section Ian Chantler was again successful in taking 1st place with Steve Lewis gaining 2nd and 3rd place. Well done all.

Colour Print 2nd - Water and Light Through The Fairy Glen by Barry Quatermass

Colour Print 3rd - Impressions of Sunset Walk by Sue Freeman

Mono Print 1st - Going Down by Ian Chantler

Mono Print 2nd - Infrared Impressions of North Uist by Steve Lewis

Mono Print 3rd - Icelandic Impressions by Steve Lewis

Digital Projected Images

In the digital projected images section our travelling member Paul Anderson did extremely well taking 1st and 2nd places with Barbara Singleton gaining 3rd place. Well done both of you.

Digital 1st - Dawn Offering by Paul Anderson

Digital 2nd - Cuenca Espana by Paul Anderson

Digital 3rd - Impressions of Times Square NY by Barbara Singleton
The theme for the competition was very difficult for members to get their head around so it must have been difficult for Nick Hilton to judge. I was one of several members away in Iceland during the judging and I'd have liked to have heard Nick's comments on the entries and his interpretation of the theme but it seems to have been a challenge well met and congratulations to the award winners.

Our next meeting on Friday 16th March is another "Members Night" and if it's as good as the last one then it shouldn't be missed.

The doors of Newton Village Hall, Grange Cross Lane, West Kirby open at 7.30pm for a 7.45pm start and a 10pm finish. You can view our remaining program of events and speakers on the Hoylake Photographic Society website or catch up with results on our Facebook page.
